Kemerovo Children's
Home No. 2 - Kemerovo
City - Geography To
accommodate so many children, the orphanage compound is huge! However, the
orphanage itself is separated into many different "apartments" and the
children are thus accommodated in a small groups of about 24 kids per group,
creating a "family" atmosphere. Each group apartment has about 6
bedrooms, a common room, one bathroom and one shower. The children
from Children's Home #2 attend the local public schools. Thus they
socialize with children outside of the orphanage environment and have companions
who are not necessarily from the orphanage. OSI
works with about 50 children from two of the orphanage "groups."
We look forward to further expansion to other groups in the orphanage as we gain
future site sponsorships. Kemerovo
Children's Home #2 is very well managed, with a young, energetic, and
creative director who has established a wonderful home for the children with
minimal resources. Click on the

city is situated on the river Tom, a tributary of the river Ob, and is
surrounded with pine and birch forests. The climate is continental with a
long, cold winter and a short but very warm summer. Click

Kemerovo
Children's Home #2 is the largest in Kemerovo, accommodating about 360
children total, aged 3-18. For the most part, the
children are either orphans who's parents are deceased, or "social
orphans," placed permanently in the orphanage system because their
parents are unable to care for them due to poverty, illness, or neglect.
Kemerovo
is located in Western Siberia, 200 km east of Novosibirsk and 3500km east
of Moscow. The city has a population of about 500,000 and is the
administrative capital of the large Kemerovo Region. Kemerovo is
best known as being in the center of Russia's largest coal-producing
region. It is an industrial
city (the main industries are coal mining and chemicals), but it is also a
scientific and a cultural center with scientific and educational
institutes, a University, museums, theatres, and the Philharmonic Hall.
